Location: Vaughan, Ontario
Client: The Hussain Family
Issue: Water leaking through basement windows during rainfall
Service: Window well installation with drainage and protective covers
The Hussain family lives in a two-storey home in Vaughan’s Maple area, where heavy spring rains led to water pooling around their basement windows. During storms, water would collect and seep through the window frames, leading to damp carpet, bubbling paint, and mold along the lower wall. The issue repeated with every rainfall and threatened the integrity of their finished basement.
The existing windows were set slightly below grade with no exterior drainage or window protection. The family reached out to Direct Waterproofing to find a permanent, preventive solution.
After assessing the elevation and soil grading around the home, we recommended custom window well installations for all three basement windows, complete with gravel drainage and well covers.
Installation Process:
After the installation, the Hussain family reported zero water entry during multiple rainstorms. Their basement walls remained dry, mold concerns were eliminated, and the well covers added a clean, modern appearance to the exterior. The project was completed in two days with minimal disruption to the landscape.
“We used to dread every rainy day because water would always leak in through our windows. Now, thanks to Direct Waterproofing, our basement stays dry, and the wells even look great. We couldn’t be more relieved.”
— The Hussain Family, Vaughan
1. Do I really need window wells if I don’t have water now?
If your basement windows are below grade or water tends to pool near your foundation, installing window wells proactively can prevent future leaks and structural damage.
2. How do window wells prevent leaks?
They create a barrier between soil and your window while directing water downward into a gravel base and drainage pipe that leads into your weeping tile system.
3. Can I add a window well to any basement window?
Yes. We install window wells for all types of basement windows, and each is customized to fit the size and grade of your home.
4. Will this improve basement air and light?
Absolutely. Window wells with clear covers increase natural light in the basement while keeping out moisture and debris.
5. How long does installation take?
Most window well installations take 1–2 days, depending on soil conditions and the number of wells being installed.
