The Challenge

The Khan family in Burlington experienced frequent water seepage through their basement floor, particularly during spring thaw and after heavy rainfall. Though the foundation walls remained dry, water pooled near floor-wall junctions, damaging flooring and storage.

A drainage assessment revealed that hydrostatic pressure from the rising groundwater table was the source, and no active drainage or sump system had ever been installed in the home.

Our Solution

Direct Waterproofing recommended installing a modern sump pump system to relieve sub-slab water pressure and redirect it away from the home.

Scope of Work:

• Sump Pit Excavation: Cut through the concrete basement slab in a discreet corner to install a deep, perforated sump basin.
• Pump Installation: Installed a high-efficiency 1/2 HP submersible pump with automatic float activation.
• Discharge Line: Routed the discharge pipe through the basement wall, directing water away from the foundation with a backflow valve and freeze guard.
• Sealing & Safety: Sealed the pit with an airtight lid to prevent odors, noise, and debris entry. Connected to an existing GFCI-protected outlet.
• Optional Battery Backup (Client Chose Not to Install): Offered a battery backup solution for future upgrades.

The Result

Since installation, the family has reported no further basement water accumulation. The sump pump activates automatically during high groundwater conditions, protecting the home’s lower level during storm events and thaw periods.
