The Challenge

The Morin family noticed water pooling in the corners of their unfinished basement every spring and after prolonged rainfall. Although no visible cracks were present, hydrostatic pressure was forcing groundwater through the cold joints between the foundation walls and basement floor.

Their home lacked a sump pump or internal drainage system, making it vulnerable to flooding during periods of high water table activity. The family wanted a dependable and discreet solution without major excavation.

Direct Waterproofing installed a complete sump pump system to relieve subsurface water pressure and redirect it away from the home’s foundation.

Scope of Work:

• Sump Pit Installation: Broke through the concrete slab in a low-lying basement corner to excavate a proper pit.
• Pump Setup: Installed a high-efficiency submersible pump with automatic float switch and sealed lid to minimize noise and vapor release.
• Discharge Line Installation: Routed an exterior discharge pipe away from the foundation and included a backflow preventer and freeze guard.
• Optional Backup Power (Client Postponed): Discussed battery backup options for future upgrades.

The Result

Since installation, the basement has remained completely dry, even during peak spring thaw and multiple rainstorms. The sump pump activates automatically, and the Morins have peace of mind knowing their basement is protected against groundwater intrusion.
